Cycling in France

Cycling in France

Cycling is the passionate pastime of the French. Whether it is the Tour de France or a trip to the local boulangerie, the French provide superb facilities for any cyclist.

On the roads and lanes of France the bike is king and the motorist gives much more respect - and room - to a bike than in any other country. Bike hire, for adults and children, is available hourly, daily or weekly in all of our resorts.

Vendee

The Vendee coast has two great advantages to offer cyclists: its hot climate and its lack of hills! Cycle paths are evident throughout the region.

Les Sables

Cycle paths run by the campsite through the forest at one side or along the coast into the town at the other. Bikes are even allowed, at no extra charge, on the water taxi from La Chaume to Les Sables.

St Hilaire

The coast road that runs from St Jean de Monts to St Hilaire has an excellent cycle path running parallel that could take you from our campsite all the way to St Gilles Croix de Vie, a beautiful fishing village 7 miles to the south, in perfect safety.

Les Conches

One excellent example of the facilities for cyclists is on the Ile de Re. Just before crossing the bridge to this beautiful island from La Rochelle you can hire a bike for the day avoiding the toll for the bridge. The island is criss-crossed by cycle paths from tip-to-toe and allows a family to see the whole island easily and safely. La Rochelle is just 45 minutes drive from our site at Les Conches.

Biscarrosse

From our site on the magnificent lake at Biscarrosse there is a cycle path leading all the way around the huge expanse of fresh, clear water. This is a marvellous way of seeing the lake and visiting some of the other superb beaches around its shores. You can also take a cycle path directly from our campsite to the heart of the village to enjoy the pavement cafes and restaurant.

Messanges

Skimming the edge of the campsite at Messanges is a beautiful cycle path that stretches from Soustons in the South to Leon in the North. Winding through the forest of Les Landes, along the lake at Leon and away from any roads this has got to be the most picturesque way of exercising!

Bring your own

There is rarely any extra cost involved in taking your own bikes with you on holiday. Children certainly enjoy the freedom of having their own bikes with them on holiday.
