Vendee offers gently sloping beaches, miles of off-road cycle paths, shady woodlands and waves which call out to be surfed on. It sources some of the finest seafood from the Atlantic sea and benefits from a micro climate that provides a high volume of sunny days. As a popular coastal region, it includes a number of resorts and attractions to tempt visitors away from the beach and it is one of the world’s newest wine producing regions. Vendee Attractions In addition to its many natural delights, Vendee also has many other attractions to suit all ages from toddler to teenager. Theme Parks The top family attraction in Vendee is Puy du Fou; a unique historic theme park which knows how to put on a spectacular show or two. The park includes a Roman Villa, a Medieval City, a labyrinth and fort. You will be entertained throughout the day with expertly choreographed jousting tournaments, firework displays and Viking battles. Built in the grounds of a French chateau, Puy du Foy is also home to the Museum of Vendee Life. The other theme park in the region is Futuroscope, which includes 3D and 4D virtual reality cinema rides, gyroscope and lake activities to keep everyone entertained. For any children feeling deprived of their electronic games whilst on holiday, Futuroscope is sure to delight. Of Interest to Younger Children For younger children, Parc des Dunes at Brem-sur-Mer is a family fun park located just a short journey from our campsite in St Hilaire-de-Reiz. It includes mini golf, trampolines and children’s quad bikes and water slides. There is also Vendee Miniature, the recreation of Vendee buildings on a small scale and the shell museum in Les Sables d’Olonne. Specialist Interests Also in Les Sables d’Olonne is the civic gardens which a free to visit and include an extensive rose garden, a bamboo forest and a canna maze to explore. Whilst all along the coast are surf and sail schools with English speaking instructors who can help to build skills and confidence on the waves. Animal Lovers If you have children who love nature Zoo des Sables has a good collection of animals and a focus on promoting environmental awareness. To see wildlife in its natural habitat, the salt marshes in the north of Vendee, give you the opportunity to take a boat ride on the water, where many varieties of birds can be seen. Whilst on L’ile Noirmoutier you can walk through a glasshouse that contains around 300 butterflies.
