And if you've never been here before, you can find out the basics with our quick guide.Where is it?The Vendee is an area in west-central France, and it's named after the river that runs through it. Getting here is simple, with the Vendee just a few hours' drive from ferry ports like Calais and Cherbourg. What kind of holiday can I have there?Known for its beautiful beaches, fun and interesting museums, great food, and historical attractions, the Vendee has something to offer almost every kind of traveller. It's a particularly good destination for families, though. For instance, many of its beaches boast Blue Flag status - something that means they're clean and safe, and so ideal for families. Plus, there is a host of family-friendly museums and activity centres, not to mention some great campsites and caravan parks for the perfect family adventure.Indeed, in terms of accommodation, there are some excellent luxury campsites and caravan parks that offer a wide range of children's facilities - including kids' clubs - and direct access to beautiful beaches. What can I do?Of course, hitting the beach is a must, and there is a wide selection of great options to choose from. Among the best is Plage du Veillon, which is brilliant for families and walkers alike.
