Camping in Landes on the West Coast of France  27/06/2014
Landes is on the South West Coast of France, north of the border with Spain. It has a distinctive landscape made up of sandy dunes and extensive pine forests, which were planted to stabilize the shifting dunes.
You can enjoy a Carisma camping holiday on our delightful sites in Biscarrosse or Messanges. The sunny beaches and campsite swimming complexes are ideal for a family holiday and we wanted to let you know about some other attractions in the Landes region.
Surfing in Landes
The Atlantic Ocean creates some impressive waves along the West Coast of France, which attract water sports enthusiasts from around the world. If you fancy learning to surf or body board whilst on holiday, the Messanges Surf School has an excellent reputation. The coaches speak English and teach children of 8 years and over, as well as adults. With the opportunity to learn some new skills and gain confidence in the water, this could be a great activity for your holiday.
If you are looking for the perfect way to cool down, Landes has two great water parks that offer a great value day out. Aqua Park in Biscarrosse and Atlantic Park in Seignosse offer a wide variety of inflatables, slides, fountains and other water activities. Take a picnic and towel and make a day of it. At Aqua Park, there are Banana Boats and Tube rides, but these are additional to the entrance cost.
Up in the Trees
Landes is covered in pine forests and at Adrenalin Park; you can challenge yourself and get a bird’s eye view. Having been harnessed up, you can climb onto the high ropes courses, which offer varying levels of difficulty. Although the minimum height restrictions will prevent younger children from taking part, play and picnic areas are provided, which are useful if you are going with children of various ages.
There are a range of museums in Landes, where you can discover all manner of artefacts. For aircraft enthusiasts, the Helicopter museum in Dax contains a well display collection and guides will help you to get the most from your visit.
The Eco Museum in Marqueze offers an interactive way to travel back in time. It includes buildings from throughout history, which have been fitted out with artefacts of the times. At Eco Museum you can also enjoy tastes of traditional foods, see free range animals, ride on a steam train and buy bread made from flour that has been milled on-site using traditional methods.
Zoo de Labenne is a popular attraction for families. It includes around 60 species of small animals including lemurs, wallabies, parrots and capybaras. There are a small selection of farm animals and a children’s play area.
