Dine out with Thierry Drapeau  29/01/2014

If you're staying at our campsite in Les Sables, you can eat out at one of the Vendee's top-rated restaurants in the form of the nearby Thierry Drapeau's two Michelin starred restaurant.

Less than an hour's drive from the site, the fine dining establishment is located at Le Logis de la Chabotterie, just up the road from La Roche-sur-Yon.

Here, master chef Thierry experiments with new and exciting ways of fusing flavours from all regions of France into delicious dishes that are not like the typical fare, even in a country as gifted in the kitchen as this.

Making strong use of colour and fragrance as well as taste, he makes sure that these individual ingredients do not lose their sense of self within the marinade, instead ensuring that each has room to bring joy to the pallit.

As the chef himself explains: "In the Vendee, we are fortunate to have a multitude of wonders that inspire, seafood, poultry, meat, foie gras, fish…" The list goes on and on.

Despite what you may think about typical Michelin-grade restaurants, the atmosphere here isn't stuffy in the slightest.

From the beautiful pots that stand outside the converted barn's cobbled walls, to the fresh indoor decor that makes great use of fresh-cut flowers, lighting and playful pieces of art, everything here is geared towards having a great dining experience.

The restaurant is open from Wednesday to noon on Sunday, as well as select Mondays during the year.

Some of the delicious dishes you can sample here include lobster and husked corn salad with lemon sabayon, shellfish and marinara and Carpaccio de Saint Jacques, a treat of a dessert that comes with lychee and grapefruit.

If those don't take your fancy, how about the chestnut gnocchi and truffle the Vendee, or roast duck with quince and saffron? Alternatively, there's always the catch of the day. And like any good restaurant in France, the wine cellar alone provides plenty enough reason to keep on going back to this beautiful eatery.

Prices typically vary from around £30 to £110, depending on the menu and the wine selection
