If you're looking to enjoy an active break in Europe this coming summer, then you'd be well advised to consider the delightful French town of Biarritz, which has seen its popularity rise markedly in recent years.
Indeed, in the last few decades it has grown in popularity among holidaymakers outside of France, many of whom head here to take advantage of the great surf on offer, as well as the wide range of attractive sites.
There are a number of excellent beaches in this area of the country and so regardless of whether you are an expert surfer or brand new to the sport, it is worth putting your skills to the test.
It's worth noting, however, that the main beach, Grand Plage, gets very crowded during the summer months, and so you may wish to visit some of the alternative destinations.
Among the best of these is the beach on the Boulevard du Prince de Galles, called Cote de Basque, while the surf beaches at Anglet are easy to reach and are typically less crowded.
However, there is more to this destination than simply surfing. For instance, if you fancy relaxing by taking a leisurely swim then you might wish to visit the Esplanade du Porte Vieux, a small beach that is ideal for this very activity.
And in addition to water sports, the town is also home to a number of thalasso-therapy centers, which offer sea water, seaweed and related treatments.
In terms of rest and relaxation, it is well worth talking a walk along the route of some of the beautiful beaches in Biarritz. Take in the sea air and your troubles will suddenly seem to be miles away.
