Although the Vendee is known to most tourists for its impressive collection of beaches, there is so much more to this charming holiday destination than you may realise.
Of course, the beaches are worth seeing and experiencing for yourself, but you'd be foolish to travel to this part of France without making the most of what there is to see and do here.
So, we're going to provide a brief guide to some of the best things to see and so in the region.
Grand parc, Puy-du-Fou
This is the largest historic and educational theme park in the world, and is certainly worth visiting on your camping holiday in France.
It is housed in a 110-acre woodland site and features more than 1,000 animals, 17 restaurants and much else besides.
For instance, there are four villages that are supposed to represent distinct phases in history and for this reason, the park is able to offer a fascinating insight into the Vendee of yesteryear.
Many people who have visited the region will tell you that the park offers the finest day out in the Vendee, one of France's most popular tourist destination.
For something cultured, you'd be well advised taking a trip to the Vikings, a pure theatre. Here, you can expect to enjoy a great night of entertainment.
The theatre itself portrays a small village in medieval times where a wedding is occurring. The ceremony, however, is interrupted by Viking invaders.
This is a large Gallo Roman coliseum that hosts Ben Hur-style chariot racing, as well as the feeding of people (not in reality, of course) to lions and a few other things that will keep you entertained.
So, if you want to enjoy a spectacular show in a truly spectacular setting, this is one opportunity that you cannot afford to pass up.
