Holidays with Teenagers  30/10/2014

Many of the families that come on a Carisma camping holiday have young children. They are looking for a destination that is warm, but not too hot, has plenty of on-site facilities including children’s pools and play areas, as well as being close to the beach. They also like the fact that our mobile home accommodation is well equipped with many of the essential items that make it easier to pack.

Whilst younger children may be happy to play in the sand, join the Carisma Children’s Club and spend hours splashing around in the pool, this may not be enough to keep older children entertained. When you are planning a family holiday that will suit children of different ages it can be more of a challenge to find a destination that keeps everyone happy.

French Campsite Facilities

The good news is that it is possible! For a start, the Carisma campsites along the West Coast of France all include on-site sports facilities and games rooms which are popular with older children. They are also all in close proximity to one of the many beachside surf schools which run down the Atlantic coast.

Rather than spending hours kicking around on the beach, your teenagers may be keen to sign up for series of watersport lessons. Depending on the local facilities, this could include surfing, body boarding or sailing. English speaking instructors teach skills to beginners through to the more experienced at these watersport centres and usually provide the necessary equipment. For many, courses can be booked online in advance, which would be advisable if you are travelling in peak season.

By attending a lesson for an hour on each day of your holiday, your teenager will see noticeable progress through the week. It can be rewarding, exciting and a chance to meet other young people of their own age. The Atlantic coast is visited by watersport enthusiasts from around the world due to its impressive waves and your child could be guided on how to take on the challenge.

Alternative Attractions

Away from the beach, there are adventure centres such as Le Grande Defi and Indian Forest along France’s West Coast, which have treetop assault courses. These centres cater for a wide range of age groups, from simple play areas for young children through various levels of high-wire difficulty. Confident teenagers and adults will love the challenge. Pack a picnic and head off for the day!

Depending where you stay, you may also be close to horse riding schools, karting centres, Canoeing trips, archery, cookery classes, theme parks and water parks. Our on-site Carisma couriers will provide you with information on local attractions that may be of interest.
