The testing Iron Man event returns for its 2nd year this July. The gruelling triathlon, which is made up of swimming, cycling and running, is widely considered to be one the most difficult one-day sporting events in world. It consists of a 1.9km swim, 92km bicycle ride and 21km run.
The swim will take place on the 5th July, starting at the Promenade Clemenceau and will carry you on into the port of Les Sables d’Olonne, just 1.5 miles away from our 5 Star Campsite, La Dune des Sables. The 90km cycling course runs to the east of the city and into the Olonne forest. The challenging course takes in through breath-taking countryside and has a large elevation gain of 600m, then finishing off with a 3 lap run of Les Sables d’Olonne promenade, including a 200m run along the beach.
Our La Dune des Sables campsite is the ideal location to stay during the event. So you’re participating / spectating or if you’re looking for a family holiday with direct beach access. You coulld not get any closer to the beach as it's been built on the sand dunes. Our Deluxe 3 Bedroom Mobile Homes with Decking (Optional Air Conditioning) offer comfort and convenience. Another benefit of travelling at that time of year means you will be paying on-school holiday pricing.
Want to take part in Iron Man? Unfortunatley, due to it's extreme popularity the event is sold out and has been for months. However, you can still register as a Relay Member by visiting the official site, Ironman. If you’re looking for a more leisurely way to enjoy the spectacle of the triathenlon, which is just a short distance from our accommodations, take a look at our 5 star Camping La Dune des Sables Campsite.
