Join the Slow Lane  30/06/2014

For many people, the daily routine has to be action packed. From the moment the alarm clock’s unwelcome beeps make you aware that it’s time to rise, though commutes, the school run, meetings and appointments, until we collapse back into bed, we face a constant battle against time and its deadlines.

Ditch the Alarm Clock whilst Camping in France

Escaping from this fast pace is one of the reasons that our holidays are so precious. We can take time to talk, read a book, enjoy a daily swim, or teach the children to ride their bikes. Camping offers you the most freedom from time restrictions.
You can ditch the alarm clock for a few days or a few weeks and simply enjoy your French camping holiday. There is no set time for breakfast and no need to get dressed up and ready for dinner by a certain time. You can take the opportunity to enjoy a morning stroll, passing a patisserie on route to smell the delicious aromas and pick up a few treats for your leisurely breakfast.

Our French campsites are all located in close proximity to the beach on the Atlantic Coast. Heading off with a picnic, book, bucket and spade can provide hours of restful entertainment. The blue seas, golden beaches and sunshine are what a holiday is all about. If you find the closest beach is more popular than you hoped, a short walk or cycle ride will lead you more deserted beaches or coves.

Cycling really is a great way to see the French countryside. Bicycles can be hired from our campsites or local shops and all along the west coast of France are off road cycle routes. A bike allows you to explore hidden treasures, from traditional villages and fishing harbours to local attractions and beaches at a relaxed pace.

Relaxing Attractions

If you love peace and tranquillity, there are also a number of natural attractions along the west coast that could appeal. L’Odet River makes for a delightful day out from La Foret, our campsites in Brittany. It has been named the most beautiful river in France and a gentle boat trip will take you along its waters, so you can view the stunning natural scenery.

Further South, the Mervent Forest is a National Park, close to our Vendee campsites containing ancient trees and a rich habitat of rare plants and flowers, along with the wildlife that lives in this protected area. Marais Poitevin is another peaceful area in Vendee where flat bottomed boats called Barques provide transport through the green marshland waters, which are known locally as ‘Venise Verte’ or Green Venice.

In the South West of France, Parc Ornithology du Teich is one of the few remaining wetlands in France and home to a wide variety of birds. This bird sanctuary can be visited throughout the year and you will see why it is so important to protect this type of habitat.

Camping in France gives you the opportunity to join the slow lane and truly escape, unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature. What better way to relax and recharge your energy?
