The Vendee coastline is home to around 70 miles of beautiful sandy beaches and is the perfect destination if you're keen to enjoy a relaxing and yet fun-filled holiday with the family.
The beaches stretch from Noirmoutierin in the north of the region to la Faute in the south. And along this route, you will come across a large number of destinations that are popular with holidaymakers from France and further afield.
Indeed, among the many seaside gems that are waiting to be enjoyed are the likes of St Jean de Monts, St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Les Sables d’Olonne.
The tourism industry in this part of the country really exploded into life in the 1860s, following the construction of a railway system that helped to transport visitors to and from different parts of the Vendee.
Each of these resorts has its own unique charm, but they are all suitable for family holidays. That is, in part, because you will find a load of activities to enjoy, many of which are suitable for young children.
But what about if you fancy making your own fun? Well, why not take a surf board with you and enjoy the great waves that can be found in this part of the country.
Alternatively, you could just sit under the summer sun and soak in the rays. Take a good book with you perhaps, and then occasionally take a dip in the water.
Still not sound like your sort of thing? You could instead head inland and revel in the beauty of the French countryside.
You will find loads of spectacular wildlife in this part of France and it really is the ideal destination in which to enjoy a picnic.
In this sense, the Vendee really is a great all-round family holiday destination, regardless of the sort of break you're hoping to enjoy.
