For water sports enthusiasts, there are few holiday destinations in Europe that are as appealing during the summer months.
This is largely because this beautiful region in France is home to an incredible array of beaches, some of which are among the best on the continent when it comes to surfing.
There are loads of sandy beaches in this part of the country, which are as good for people who are beginners to the sport as well as those who are experienced surfers.
What's more, it ought to be noted that there are a number of surfing schools in the region, meaning that there's plenty of scope for you to improve your skills on a board while you're on your holiday.
But what if surfing or other water sports do not sound like you're kind of fun? Well, you needn't worry as the beaches provide the perfect location to simply relax and leave your everyday stresses behind you.
Take a good book with you, for instance, and you can spend your time turning pages and soaking in the beautiful summer sun.
Alternatively, if you're travelling with young children, you can take a game with you and play on the sands.
And with 140 km of beaches to choose from, you won't be short of options in terms of which beach to spend your time at.
Obviously, the beaches are more likely to be busy during the summer season, but there is still sure to be the occasional barely-populated spot along the coastline if you look hard enough.
For something completely different, however, head further inland and soak up the beautiful scenery in the rural areas of the Vendee.
This is the perfect destination for enjoying a picnic, especially if the sun is on your back.
