Enjoy delicious meals created with great love and care during your stay in the Vendee, with a trip to a beautiful restaurant. Vent d'Est is situated in the heart of Les Sables-d'Olonne, meaning it is within easy reach of our camping sites along the Atlantic coast and right of the doorstep of our number one site, which is also in Les Sables.
The restaurant supports a homely, rustic decor that is nonetheless zesty and bright, with plenty of mood lighting and greenery dotted around the intimate seating area. Don't let this and the attractive prices (ranging from 10 to 25 euros a head, generally speaking) give you the wrong impression. This is fine gourmet food that has been well-received by nearly everyone who has visited.
Particular specialities include seafood dishes with some of the house favourites consisting of bass fillet with langoustine bisque, choucroute de la mer ('sauerkraut of the sea'), Carpaccio de Saint Jacques with lobster sauce and, of course for any coastal restaurant worth it's salt, a variety of fresh caught fish of the day.
Unlike many of the larger eateries that one may visit, the intimate atmosphere of Vent d'Est extends to the service and you're likely to talk to the owner during the course of your visit. He's always welcoming and happy to help visitors who may have trouble with the menus.
As well as a range of fish and seafood dishes that are always fresh and perfectly prepared, the restaurant also does many other dishes for those who may not enjoy the fruits of the sea. And their desserts are simply divine, presented in the finest of French gastronomic fashions and sporting intense flavours that you'll be desperate to save some room for.
If you're staying in Vendee for a while and plan to eat out more than once, the Thierry Drapeau restaurant in Saint-Sulpice-le-Verdon is well worth a visit, but you'll need a car to reach it as it is approximately an hour away from our coastal campsites. The trip is well worth the wait though, and there's plenty to explore in the area if you intend to make a day of it.
