Sample Brittany's cultural offerings  20/11/2013

As well as being a popular holiday destination among beachgoers, the French region of Brittany is an ideal location if you're keen to enjoy a bit of culture.

The region boasts an impressive cultural and historic heritage and if you're keen to learn a little more about your chosen holiday destination, then there's plenty of scope to do so.

There are many great museums to choose from in Brittany, so we're going to run you through some of the best…

The Temple of Art

In the 12th century, Bon-Repos Abbey was used exclusively for religious purposes, but it has subsequently become one of the must-visit attractions in the region.

Following a 20-year restoration process, it has been transformed into something entirely different. There are, for instance, educational workshops focusing on the environment, which is something of a godsend if you're travelling with young children.

What's more, the abbey also plays host to a biennale exhibition called ‘Murmures’, which is a collection of sound works that alternate with a symposium of African-inspired sculpture.

Daoulas Gardens

The abbey is home to the ruins of a Romanesque abbey that features a pulpit and fountain. There is, however, much more to be enjoyed than the ruins.`

A sizeable number of visitors come, predominantly to enjoy the botanical gardens, which are notable for their number of medicinal plants.

Indeed, the split-level garden is home to 250 different varieties of herbs, therapeutic, aromatic and exotic plants.

Whether you're travelling with kids or with your partner, you're sure to learn a thing or two at this fascinating site.

Landevennec Abbey Museum

Landevennec Abbey is another top attraction in the region and it is easy to understand why. Take a wander around the site and admire the medicinal herbs in its early middle ages garden.

Added to this, why not take the chance to visit the Abbey museum, where you can learn more about this impressive archeological site?
