See some historic sites in Brittany  12/11/2013

Although Brittany is home to long stretches of coastline that are perfect for enjoying a great beach holiday, there is much more to this region than meets the eye.

If you're a history buff, then this is the ideal holiday destination for you, as there are plenty of tourist attractions that go some way towards telling the compelling story of the region.

Here, we're going to provide a brief guide to some of the best things to see and do in Brittany.

Josselin

Josselin Castle is still lived in by members of the legendary Rohan family and ranks among the most popular attractions in the area. Take a wander around this landmark and immerse yourself in its fascinating history.

What's more, you can also head to the doll museum or go on a forest walk with the kids.

Rennes

The regional capital of Brittany, Rennes is home to a number of impressive-looking landmarks, including the parliament building.

And while much of the city was destroyed during a huge fire in the 18th century, you will find that small pockets of the original design remain intact.

For shoppers, too, there's plenty to keep you satisfied, especially the Saturday-morning market, which offers up all sorts of weird and wonderful items.

Cancale

Cancale is best-known as being something of a paradise for foodies, with the oysters proving especially popular.

But in addition to this, the village is notable for its breathtaking views over the Baie de St Michel as well as scenic walks around the coast.

And if you're feeling in the mood, you can head down to the beach and enjoy some fun on the sand.

Whether you're on the lookout for a beach holiday or a cultural experience that is difficult to match, you won't be disappointed by Brittany.
