Summer Celebrations in Brittany  11/07/2014

Through the months of July and August, many towns in France put on evening entertainment for locals and tourists to enjoy. Light warm summer evenings are perfect for a stroll through the town to take in the sights, sounds and smells of these community events.

Children are often involved in the music and dancing and usually welcome to join in. Many of the campsites offer evening entertainment, including children’s discos, film showings and entertainers, but these local town events offer you an insight into the French culture and ways of life, so you really feel like you are abroad. As a unique experience, they are also likely to form strong and happy memories of your French camping holiday.

If you are staying at La Foret Fouesnant our Brittany campsite, head to the Theatre de Verdure at 9pm on any Wednesday evening in July or August. Les Nuits Celtiques de Peniti is a celebration of traditional Breton dancing and music. The Breton people are very proud of their heritage, so there is plenty of passion in the lively performances

You may not be able to understand the words, but you can still delight in the costumes, music and spirit of this live entertainment. Although it is a free weekly event, take your euros as local beer and crepes are on sale through the evening. At the end of the night, you are in walking distance from the campsite.

Also in Brittany, but on Thursdays (from 18 July until 22 August), the town of Saint Brieuc puts on Les Nocturnes – Concert et Arts de la Rue. These evenings are a showcase of live music, street entertainment, arts and craft stalls. Joined by stalls selling delicious food and drink, all can be seen and enjoyed along the streets of the town centre.

If you are on a family camping holiday, it might make for a later night for children, but younger ones may be able to drop off in the pushchair as you are walking around. After a day of splashing in the campsite pool, playing on the beach and enjoying the fresh sea air and an evening out an about in the local area, there is even a chance that you may enjoy a lie in the next morning!
