The rugged charm of Perros-Guirec  20/03/2014

Brittany is regarded with international renown for the beauty of its natural scenery. Here, land and water come together in dramatic fashion; nowhere more so than the Cote de Granit Rose, or Pink Granite Coast.

It is well worth visiting the area of such outstanding natural beauty on your trip to Britanny. If you're travelling by ferry to Roscoff with the intention of driving down to west coast - where you'll find our excellent La Foret campsite - why not take a brief diversion to Perros-Guirec?

The popular coastal resort town is just an hour's drive from Roscoff and from here it is only two hours to La Foret, so it is certainly worthwhile factoring a visit into your trip if time permits. Perros-Guirec is a protected national site comprising unusual landscapes consisting of rugged pink granite jutting out in all manner of unexpected directions.

The cragged rock face has been carved by millions of years of wind and waves to impressive effect and just off the coast is an archipelago of islands dotted with stone carved churches, fortifications and windmills. Aside from getting lost amid the myriad natural wonders at Perros-Guirec, there is also plenty of man-made beauty to admire - including some of the following cultural and historical landmarks.

Wax Museum - While not on the scale of Madame Tussauds waxen creations, this quaint establishment - nextled within a stately looking home - still boasts some impressive scenes from history made entirely of wax. From the local landscape to the French Revolution and the 18th century Chouannerie movement that swept through the Vendee, these lustrous tableaus paint vivid pictures of France's imperial and republican past!

Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Clarte - Constructed in the 15th century of the same fine pink granite that litters the shoreside, this old church boasts impressive steeples and stands on what was an important strategic position during the Second World War.
