Tour de France – Starts in the Vendee for 2018  09/03/2018

The world’s most famous bike race is back!  Starting in the Vendee, and you could be there for a Tour de France Mobile Home Holiday. Each of our three campsites in the region will have the world’s best cyclists right on their doorstep on the Saturday 7th July. The 3,329km race will be the shortest of the 21st century.  It will feature 176 riders, down on previous years due to new rules by Union Cycliste Internationale. France isn't only a perfect place for the world’s best cyclists, it’s ideal for all abilities and ages. The Vendee has miles and miles of dedicated cycle path, separated from the roads.  Meaning the whole family can cycle in safe conditions, surrounded by stunning views.

Back to where it all started

The first ever edition of the race started in the region back in 1903.  It’s the ninth time the competition has been in the area and is the fifth starting stage.  The 2018 Grand Depart will start from Noirmoutier-en-L’lle (part of the Pays de la Loire region).  Then will travell south past St Hilaire (Sol a Gogo), La Dune des Sables, Jard sur Mer and finally finishing in town of Fontenay le Comte.  It's the 6th longest stage with a distance of 189km.   The area boasts countless fantastic beaches, therefore this coastal scenic route stage is sure to be a popular spectacle with holiday makers. Team Skys’ Chris Froome, the 4 time winner, who is probably regarded as one of the greatest ever cyclists, will be back to try retain his yellow Jersey. He’ll face stiff competition from early favourites Tom Dumoulin, Richie Porte and Nario Quintana.  Whilst home grown favourite Romain Bardet will hope to improve on his 2017 3rd place finish. You and your family could be there to experience the Tour de France first hand by staying at any of our Vendee campsites. Carisma Holiday’s accommodations and campsites offer the perfect setting for a family Tour de France Mobile Home Holiday.
