Each year hundreds of tourists and French holiday makers head for the west coast of France. Warm sunny weather, hundreds of miles of beaches, Atlantic waves and unspoilt countryside have attracted visitors for centuries.
In response to the number of people choosing to take their holidays in Vendee, the resorts of Saint Jean de Monts and Les Sables d'Olonne were developed as family holiday resorts in the 1970s. Sometimes these developments can ruin a town, but Saint Jean de Monts and Les Sables d'Olonne managed to conserve their original charm by retaining their old towns; full of narrow streets that are a delight to explore and traditional whitewashed buildings.
As established holiday destinations, these towns offer a wealth of entertainment options. In addition to safe, clean beaches, there are many family attractions for example a shell museum and an ecologically focused zoo in Les Sables d’Olonne. There is also a wide selection of cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy anything from an ice cream, through to a locally caught seafood speciality.
In high season a full calendar of activities is put on by the local communities. From boat races, firework displays, art exhibitions, specialist markets, walking tours, craft and nature activities, there is something to appeal to all holiday makers.
The beaches remain the main attraction along the Vendee coastline, where families enjoy the simple pleasures of building sandcastles, collecting natural treasures, hunting in rock pools and splashing in the waves. The coastal resorts are also home to surfing, sailing and other water sport schools where visitors can either learn or improve their skills on the waves.
There are also many places where you can hire bikes in Saint Jean de Monts and Les Sables d'Olonne. A bicycle is an ideal way to explore the coastal and inland sites. The Vendee region is covered by a network of cycle paths, so you can head off to discover quiet beaches, shady pine forests, traditional villages and Vendee’s vineyards.
Carisma’s campsite La Dune des Sables has its own swimming pools with water slides, sports facilities including table tennis, volleyball courts, mini golf and children’s play areas. There is also an on-site games room, bike hire facilities and a number of bars and restaurants.
The site also has direct access to a beach and is in walking distance from the many attractions in Les Sables d’Olonne. A holiday at our campsite, close to this lively resort will ensure that everyone is kept happy and entertained, no matter what your interests.
