At Carisma, we love Vendee. The beautiful area on the west coast of France is a tranquil destination, which is ideal for escaping the demands of daily life. Our campsites offer a good range of modern facilities including heated swimming pools, powerful showers and restaurants, but outside the campsite boundaries many things have remained largely unchanged for decades.
Most of us are in need of a holiday where you can enjoy a slower pace and not be tied to the usual time pressures. So, having arrived, why not swap the car for pedal power? You can hire bikes and helmets at a reasonable rate from several of our Vendee campsites, or our couriers can point you in the direction of local cycle hire facilities.
There are miles of designated cycle paths which offer you the best way to explore the beaches, as well as nature reserves, local islands and woodlands. On a bike you can discover quiet coves, shaded woodland walks and traditional fishing harbours. Many of these places have resisted modernisation, so a few hours of gentle pedalling can take you back in time.
A great example is the weekly markets are still held in many French towns including those in Vendee. Find out the day and times of the nearest markets to the campsites from our couriers and enjoy browsing whilst the locals do their weekly shopping. Vendee has a strong seafood tradition, so you may be able to pick up locally caught fish or seafood for your evening barbeque, along with delicious French breads, fresh fruit and vegetables.
If you are keen to find out more of the history and traditions of the region, the Museum of Vendee Life is housed at Puy du Fou. Puy du Fou is a theme park in the grounds of a chateau in Les Epesse. It celebrates European history through a daily showcase of enactments, displays and activities that aim to impress every age group. With jousting knights and medieval villages, you really can feel like you have stepped back in time.
In complete contrast, if you and your family are suffering technology withdrawal symptoms, you may prefer to be entertained at Futurescope. This theme park near Poitiers is in driving distance from the campsites in Vendee, but offers a very different holiday experience. It comprises of 15 futuristic cinema pavilions in which you experience thrilling virtual reality rides. The site also includes La Gyrotour, a high rotating tower that offers a bird’s eye view of the park, floating bicycle rides on the lake and a fountain laser show.
Our Carisma campsite couriers have a great reputation for delivering high levels of customer service. With their advice, you can discover the past and future in Vendee.
